My mail order bride will be here in five days. I”m a nervous wreck. It has been a little over a year since I first met her and three trips ago to the Ukraiine. I love the Ukraiine but after three trips I was so dreading another overnight flight I could puke. But, finally she will be arriving.
I’m running around cleaning the house (I was actually going to leave it dirty but my sisters told me just because I was a pig I didn’t have to look like a pig – – not sure what it meant but I knew it included cleaning my own house), need to get some groceries in the house (I guess the days of living on 7-11 Brownies and Big Gulps are over) and I”m getting a storm door installed (both for security and appearance).
My soon to be wife is gorgeous. We talked a few days back by telephone and she (on her own) promised she would work hard to be a good wife and to learn English quickly. Her mother is my same age and her father is actually 1-2 years younger. However, I still call her mother “mama” and her father who I suspect use to be part of the KGB (prior to his retirement) I call sir:-)
It hasn’t been cheap going back and forth to the Ukraine or paying a translator to assist me in my quest but thus far it has been worth every penny. In hind sight I have spent much more and gotten much less over the course of my life.
My family was initially very leary of my marrying a woman much younger and leary of me marrying a Mail Order Bride but as they have seen the love this girl shows for me and the sacrifices she has made to come to a country where she knows nobody my family has warned up to her.
As for me I’m excited to be marrying a woman that I can be proud of instead of some of the American trolls I have married/dated in the past. There is just something classically classic about a foreign woman. I’m not sure if it is their love for the family (which they do) or their understanding and appreciation for how a family unit comes together. What they don’t have is this need to be screaming womens lib and equal rights at every beckoning moment. And yet women like Ivana Trump have demonstrated that foreign women are also not “push-overs”.
So my bride will be here in 5 days. I have to get a haircut, maybe a few sit ups, new shoes and get the inside panel of my car door repaired (my sister said it made me look “white trash” with a broken car door panel) so I have much to do. . . .
Oh yeah, I need to kneel and thank God for truly all my dreams have come true marrying my Mail Order Bride.
